Position: General Manager - Brazil Operations
After a stint in the South African navy at the age of 16, Ron began, in 1963, what would become a lifetime career in the mining industry, starting with Palabora Mining Co. - learning all the disciplines involved in running a highly efficient mine (i.e. exploration drilling, mining minerals dressing, metallurgical analysis, minerals accounting, budget control, project management techniques and much more). He went on to work as a technical consultant working in South Africa, Namibia, USA and Brazil with major companies. He was also a mine manager for several companies in South Africa and Brazil.
During 1978 while working on an exploration and mine development project in Brazil, the owners of the mine offered him a 2-yr contract as manager of their mining division, which he accepted, emigrating from South Africa to Brazil. Ron, along with Don MacFayden -- another highly regarded pioneer in the mining world - is one of the founders of the Victory Strike Project. Following Don's advice, Ron began exploring the upper reaches of the Verissimo River and its tributaries in an attempt to locate the source of the many diamonds found in the Verissimo River and its terraces. He began exploring the Vai-Vem River and its tributaries as the likely source of the diamonds in the Verissimo River - discovering, as a result, the 'Victory Strike', which is now regarded as a diamond province.
